1659_ 1/20/15 - Lucy Sanders, CEO for the National Center for Women and Information Technology or NCWIT along with Larry Nelson, Director of w3w3® Media Network are interviewing Christina Wallace, the Founding Director of BridgeUp: STEM, a new educational initiative at the American Museum of Natural History focused on introducing girls and minorities to computer science. It is funded by a generous $7.5M
5-year grant from the Helen Gurley Brown Trust. Previously Christina was a Vice President at Startup Institute, the Founder and CEO of venture-backed fashion company Quincy Apparel, a management consultant with the Boston Consulting Group, and an arts manager at the Metropolitan Opera. She holds undergraduate degrees in mathematics and theater studies from Emory University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Originally from Lansing, Michigan, Christina is a mentor with Coolhouse Labs, a startup accelerator based in Northern Michigan, and is pleased to sit on the Alumni Board of Interlochen Center for the Arts. She is also a mentor with the Fashion Tech Lab in New York City.

But also, here in Denver, as the original investor with founder Josh Stewart of XJet, the private jet company. Larry Nelson, w3w3.com, asked Susan what was next for her, she replied, "What I really want to do is to teach people the key educational steps, it's not a secret, behind everyone being as successful as they want to be. To follow their own dreams. The first key is to know yourself! Really get to know how you work. Not the clutter of baggage, not the expectations, but get to know yourself so you can self express in the area that makes you thrive, successful at the business of living." Susan credits Educo, a program she attended 12 years ago, for providing the keys to her success. Today she says, "I don't need more jets, I have enough oil. Now I want to help others to attain their success."

Finance, advertising and internet companies are blurring together
1641_ 11/24/14 - Founded in early 2011 MemSQL sounds like a great deal. We're talking with Carlos Bueno, product manager, and he's explained that mem sql is extremely flexible - you don't have to have specially equipped machines from Oracle, it works everywhere and it's very inexpensive! They've just shipped version 3.2 of their software. They have a six month cycle where they do the next year version and then the .5 version. So they're on the third major cycle. MemSQL is not geographically limited - it's software that you can install on your own hardware. A lot of their customers are on the east coast, they tend to be finance and advertising companies. On the west coast they tend to be more Internet companies - but finance, advertising and internet companies are starting to blur together. Of course there are customers here in Colorado like Comcast for instance.

When you have Level 3, Time Warner Telecom, Qwest and now Zayo Group all within about 30 miles of each other, this creates a nice environment," said Dan Caruso, President and CEO of Zayo Group. A disembodied voice said, "You’re in an ambulance. I’m just putting an IV in your arm," I had no idea where I was. I had a vague recollection that I had been on a bike. "You’re in an ambulance. You are ok. Stay calm." I realized I was tightly strapped to a board and couldn’t move if I wanted to. My legs hurt. My ribs hurt. My shoulders hurt. I couldn’t figure out what had happened. I couldn’t process where I was. I felt like I was coming out of a dream, but I couldn’t remember the dream. I couldn’t open my eyes. The doctor asked, "What day is it?" I responded, "I have no idea." I forgot to say that I usually have no idea what day it is. Patiently, the doctor asked, "Who is the president?" I thought to myself 'George Bush' but I paused, knowing that wasn’t correct. After a short time, I answered "Barack Obama". "What is your name?" "Brad." "Good. You seem ok. Do you know what day it is yet?" I responded, "I generally don’t know what day it is." The next thing I remember was hitting a bump and opening my eyes to see a woman pushing me through some doors. "Hang on – we are just wheeling you into the emergency room."
