CIO, Helping homeless pets… One Vet at a time
1700_ - Here at C-Level @ A Mile High, we met, Teri Angel Burley, officially representing Budget Management Institute where she is a volunteer teaching others how to be project managers. Teri helps with the certification program - and she also helps veterans to become project managers as well as being acclimated back to civilian life . Teri, also a veteran said, "I try to keep busy in my off-time, and I'm all about giving back time. I like to volunteer and I'm on lots of boards, and I look forward to getting further involved with C-Level" Teri is the new CIO at Envision Radiology. On a personal level Teri loves to create jewelry and, she does dog rescue. So she creates jewelry to sell [Angel Arms Jewelry] and 100% of those proceeds go to 'Pets for Vets'. Teri takes in special needs dogs, dogs that are disabled, and rehabs them either for being adopted or going to a vet. If a dog has too many medical needs, Teri keeps them. The jewelry sold is to either sponsor veterans or a pet that can be matched with a veteran for PTSD. So, that's what she does for fun, "Helping homeless pets… One Vet and one Pet at a time."

Business transformation teams focus
1701_ - Evan Eakin is Red Robin Gourmet Burgers vice president of information technology. As part of that, "we're interested in driving change at Red Robin. I certainly own the technology part of that. Friends and colleagues in our Business Transformation Group focus on program management. And then also in our Operations Services arm, which in our business is about driving change in our restaurants. We have 400 corporate restaurants, across about 44 states in the U.S. and Canada, with about 28,000 team members that we've got to be able to reach. I can do that through technology but often that's not good enough if I don't have the change enablement and the change management. That's really what our three teams focus on, business transformation at Red Robin." Larry asked how long it takes to drive these changes through an organization like this. "Depending on the type of change" says Evan, "if you've got a large software package…"

Islands of Data - connected, working together
1699_ As the C-Level @ A Mile High Live Auction begins, we are talking with Mark Geene, Founder & CEO of Cloud Elements. Since our last visit with Mark, a lot has happened. Mark tells us they've raised their first round of venture capital, added about 30 people to their company and moved into a new space down near Coors Field, in the building called 'Industry' - we're growing like crazy, and about a few hundred customers later. We are making it easier to make all the cloud services and applications that companies use, to work together. The Internet of Things is just a huge opportunity we're engaging in, where everything from street lamps to toothbrushes to appliances have APIs - but they don't work together. We help them all work together. And we help developers build applications and move data from all those devices and much more easily than they can do writing them individually.

CIOs asking for high-bred solution
1698_ - We are talking with Bill Heuston, Director of Sales at Viawest. Bill has been with Viawest for the past 14 years and says it has been a wonderful journey. "… when I started it was like $6M in revenue and now we're over $200M in revenue. The next goal is to be a $500M-a-year-company..." Larry asked Bill what he's seeing in this high, almost frenetic growth, industry. "The enterprise space, the CIO is asking for high-bred solutions. So, there are so many defragmented cloud options with Amazon and Azure and Rackspace. But we're seeing a consistent message coming from the CIO that they want a single data operator that can provide all the different facets of their compute needs. Whether it be inexpensive archiving or backup like an Amazon or whether it be a Microsoft SharePoint application… and they want to have a company like Viawest come to the table and offer a solution that can provide all those things with one solution, one engineer, one support number to call…"

Public Relations in 2015, SEO, Websites, Social Media
1690_ 3/16/15 - Larry interviewed Doyle Albee, president of Metzger Albee Public Relations. Today they work with Healthcare, medical device companies, hardware, software, telecom those types of things. Very involved in digital security of late, which is no surprise - 2014 was the year of the breach, so we do a lot of work in those areas. But we have two big parts to our business. We do what I would call traditional public relations and then we also build web sites and do SEO and that type of thing. These are all public relations efforts that Metzger Albee does well, "...and, which we believe in 2015 is 'public relations' - it's SEO, websites, social media, content development, it's talking to the press - all of those things need to come together for an effective program. So all of those things... to keep our data safe, and to figure out how to keep our systems safe are just so, so important. Listen for more...Next week, the 'Internet of Things'...

Connections made, jobs filled, and freelance positions
1692_ 3/16/15 - Every other Tuesday morning Doyle Albee and Bing Chou host the Boulder Open Coffee Club (BOCC). The idea is to get a bunch of folks from the startup and business community together to talk about current events, job openings and things of that nature, talking about our common interests. Doyle said, "We bounce back and forth. We find a lot of people think they need a passport to go from Boulder-to-Denver or Denver-to-Boulder. And, in fact, you don't, just to be clear. But, we do an Open Coffee Club every Tuesday morning at 8:00 am. We do Denver one week, Boulder the next week. Some people come to both, it's two very different crowds, two very different feels. And it's a great chance to introduce yourself." Jason Mendelson of the Foundry Group actually started Open Coffee Club in Boulder when he first moved here because he wanted to meet people...
